About
Claire’s career in marine biology began the first time she sat on a surfboard at two months old. Since then, she has committed herself to learning about and finding ways to protect our oceans. Volunteering at the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium solidified that she wanted to pursue a degree in marine biology, which led her to the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa where she volunteered at the Waikīkī Aquarium, was introduced to the ToBo Lab, and earned her bachelors degree.
Starting as an undergraduate intern in the ToBo Lab, Claire helped graduate students and postdoctoral researchers conducting microfragmentation experiments on Hawaiian corals. In collaboration with a Donahue Lab graduate student, I conducted my own research project on the seasonal variability of initial biofilm development. Now as a full-time employee, Claire still works on projects happening at the Coral Nursery and tank system. These experiments are meant to aid in active reef restoration in Hawai‘i. Additionally, she assists Chris Suchocki with the management and maintenance of the Coral Nursery.
