Pumehana has worked in project-based learning and ‘āina education in Ko‘olauloa and Ko‘olaupoko (where they have ancestral ties) for the past decade, and currently works with the He‘eia NERR ‘Āina Education Professional Learning Program. Before that, they worked as a Career Technical Education (CTE) specialist and informal educator in the Bay Area, as well as a youth case manager in Hawai‘i Island. Pumehana has their MSW from UH Mānoa and is rooted in community, using their skills in storytelling & filmmaking to help bring local education, training, and research to life. They believe that creative, collaborative work is pivotal to long-term social change – in Hawai‘i and beyond.
